Set Her Free is primarily based in Kampala, Uganda but has expanded its work to other areas in Uganda such as Bombo and Karamoja.
Kampala
Most administrative work is done at the main site in Kampala since it functions as a central location for the staff to discuss tasks, goals, and ideas. It also serves as a meeting point for SHF and its partners. Besides staff offices, the main building contains all the classrooms in which vocational training takes place for girls who are the beneficiaries of SHF. There are dormitories and a kitchen for girls who require boarding. On the grounds, there is also a large garden that grows matooke, aloe vera, eggplants, mangoes, and more. A chicken coop can be found next to the garden with plenty of chickens to sustain the site. Briquette making is done in Kampala as well, with all the necessary equipment needed to make and store briquettes. Last but not least, the Early Childhood Development Center is at our Kampala site and allows the girls to focus on their education while their babies are being looked after and cared for by the staff. The babies at this center also benefit because they are able to interact with other babies and develop basic skills.
Bombo
Located about an hour away from the main site in Kampala, Bombo is an extension of the work being done by SHF. One of the main focuses of this site is sustainable farming. The farm grows several fruits and vegetables that are used in both sites for consumption by the staff and students. Matokke, cassava, potatoes, peppers, papaya, mangoes, and tomatoes are just a few of the crops that are grown there in addition to the live farm animals that are tended to (goats, cows, pigs). This site also has the Shine Kinder Care facility that provides kindergarten education for both the children in the community and the children who have grown out of the ECD in Kampala. They develop valuable skills like teamwork, English, self-discipline, and more. Boarding is available at this facility for children who are not able to go home every day. The next step is to expand this facility to include primary school education for older children as well.
Karamoja
Set Her Free has begun work in Karamoja as of 2024, with the desire to open a satellite office in this region to further support the programs and initiatives taking place in Karamoja. This region of Uganda is one of the most impoverished regions in the world, with an incredibly high rate of child trafficking. Set Her Free works with the community, district officials, schools, and other organizations to combat the issues at hand by rescuing, rehabilitating, and restoring children who have survived trafficking.
